Jane Lund: My Work
(4th Floor Gallery)

January 27
 –  March 5, 2005

Forum Gallery will present Jane Lund: My Work from January 27 to March 5, 2005.  The exhibition is the first retrospective of work by American artist Jane Lund, an acknowledged master of the pastel medium.  Beginning in 1970, Lund has transcended the medium, producing perceptive portraits and dazzling still-lifes that invite the viewer to meet and touch her subjects.

For her still life subjects, Lund chooses objects that have tactile presence, and she renders their surface textures with amazing clarity.  Her richly colored and meticulously detailed pastels reveal her fascination with form and light.  Her focus is so intense and her rendering so precise that the objects take on an iconic presence.

In her portraits, which can take as long as 18 months to complete, Jane Lund creates homages to her relatives and close friends with whose lives hers is entwined.  She connects with them and imbues their physical presence with a palpable sense of personae and history.  These portraits are not so much life-like as they are compelling tributes, each one leading us to study the structure of a fascinating individual.  The figures fill the space and gaze outwards, leading us in to their characters and personalities.  They are immediate, real and incredibly deep.

Born in Queens, New York, in 1939, Jane Lund attended Queens College and the New School for Social Research.  She studied art at Pratt Institute in New York, but developed her celebrated pastel technique on her own.  Jane Lund’s works are in the collections of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, MA; The Davidson Collection, Art Institute of Chicago, IL; DeCordova Museum, Lincoln, MA; Museum of Fine Arts, Springfield, MA; and the DeSaisset Museum in Santa Clara, CA.

Jane Lund: My Work opens with a reception for the artist on January 27 from 5:30 to 7:30 PM and will be on view through March 5, 2005.  A full color catalogue will accompany the exhibition.
